Georgia’s Staff Pick–An Alternative Pink for Valentine’s Day
Rose Champagne? Provence Rose? It’s been done before…but here’s something a little more interesting for today’s holiday:
Pascal Pibaleau “La Perlette” Sparkling Grolleau NV
Pascal farms organically, biodynamically and has the largest holdings of Grolleau – a nearly extinct, traditional Loire red grape. This is a method ancestral, frizzante style with native yeasts and no sulfites. Bone dry with hints of raspberry, strawberry and a nutty almond finish.
I love the whimsical, romantic label (both a vine and a woman blowing bubbles) … and everyone likes an attractive price!
STAFF PICK from Chris Wilford:
One of my favorite new additions to our book is the Scinniri IGT from Sicily. A killer blend of 60 % Nerello Mascalese, 30% Cesanese and 10% Petit Verdot from the slopes of Mt. Etna. I have been a huge fan of the wines of this region for years. This beautiful unoaked blend is no eception. Exuberant and yet refined, showing fruity notes of black cherry along with smoke, white pepper, herb de Provence and black tea. All this balanced by the unmistakable minerality of the sicilian volcanic soil. This wine has become a staple at my table for its sheer ease and versatility. Simply a killer of a wine and a steal at its price.

In honor of the upcoming feast, we’ve put together a list of Staff Picks for Thanksgiving. Happy reading!
David’s Delights:
Last year, while languishing on the NJ Turnpike for half a day, I turned to my wife and told her we were staying home for Thanksgiving next year. Well, next year is now. And I’m hanging in, folks. It’s the first time I’ve ever stayed home for Turkey Day. And because I am a contrarian at heart, the dry and, in my opinion, useless bird known as Turkey will not see the light of day in my kitchen.
Staff Pick from Brian, our Domestic Portfolio Manager:
For me, it’s the 2010 vintage of Gorrondona Tinto Txakolina. 100% Hondarribi Beltza.
Much deeper dark fruit than the 2009. Reminded me of some of my favorite Cab Francs from the Loire (La Croix Boissie from Baudry and Pierre and Catherine Breton’s Bourgueil Clos Sénéchal).
Those two wines specifically are from distinct clay soil vineyards in Saumur-Champigny and Bourgueil. The Gorrondona had a very similiar minerality as those wines and great salinity from the Atlantic.
Perfect for this time of year, with root vegetables from the farmer’s market.
